NeuralStar Expands Optical and SONET Support Via Interoperation with Fujitsu’s FLASHWAVE ® 4500 Platform and NETSMART ® 1500 Interoperability with Fujitsu Devices Further Expands NeuralStar’s Dynamic Visibility and Control for Converged Networks Reston, Virginia May 2, 2005, AiMetrix, Inc., today announced that NeuralStar, the company’s Dynamic Network Management platform for complex, next generation networks, has extended its two-way communications and interoperability with FLASHWAVE ® 4500 Multiservice Provisioning and Switching Platform (MSPP/MSSP) and NETSMART ® 1500 Element Management System (EMS), from Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. The agreement further extends NeuralStar’s ability to monitor, manage and dynamically control any network device in any configuration from within a single window . NeuralStar, provides complete visibility, two-way communication and dynamic control over any networked device, application or process, and is architected specifically to meet the conditions of high traffic, converged networks. These networks typically incorporate data, voice, video, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) or other advanced, heterogeneous technologies into a single network. The carrier-class FLASHWAVE 4500 platform supports the creation of next-generation optical transport networks that offer a quantum leap in network efficiency. The NETSMART 1500 EMS supports northbound interfaces to NeuralStar for complete end-to-end management of SONET networks of all sizes. One Network. One View. Total Control. NeuralStar is the industry’s only Dynamic Network Management platform offering two-way communications capability with any networked device across any protocol. Interoperability with Fujitsu devices further expands NeuralStar’s visibility over complex networks, enabling network professionals to adapt to network conditions through automated procedures or immediately, in real time. “Total visibility and control of today’s complex networks is essential in managing the changing conditions of converged networks,” said Phil Carrai, President and CEO of Ai Metrix. “Once you’ve added net-centered applications like VoIP, Web Services or video conferencing into today’s converged networks, the old rules of traditional network management simply aren’t enough anymore. To assure service levels and quality, it takes the ability to view the entire network and all of its devices, and to act dynamically based on real network conditions.” NeuralStar’s Cost-Saving Model for Interoperability The new drivers that allow NeuralStar to interoperate with the FLASHWAVE ®4500 and NETSMART ®1500 are provided at no cost to NeuralStar customers, is part of a radically different approach to licensing device drivers that has been pioneered by Ai Metrix. Alternately, drivers and processes are created at considerable cost as customized components by the vendor or a consultant. Any later changes in device configuration usually require commensurate changes to be made in the driver (or the larger network management system) by the vendor or consultant, usually at an additional charge. In contrast, NeuralStar alone offers all the device drivers it creates for free to all users, including the rights for those customers to adapt the drivers as needed. These drivers provide the ability to collect event information, performance metrics, device inventory and configuration, as well as to modify parameters and configuration within the device. In addition, because NeuralStar Designer®, NeuralStar’s development environment, is so easy to use, Ai Metrix and NeuralStar customers like Fujitsu, have created and customized thousands of drivers, processes and other rules-based tools which are easily adaptable. Complementing our no-cost licensing policy for NeuralStar drivers, Ai Metrix is now planning the development of a special NeuralStar Online Community for the free and voluntary exchange of these tools and best practices for Dynamic Network Management. Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., leveraging Tokyo-based Fujitsu’s unequalled and unique IT and Telecom portfolio, creates and delivers robust wire line and wireless solutions that boost next-generation networks in North America. Supported by over 150,000 professionals in more than 100 countries with revenues of $45 billion, Fujitsu helps its customers fuse information and networking technology with commercial value.
